Frequently Asked Questions

What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a healthcare practice focused on helping individuals restore and maintain physical function, mobility, and well-being. It involves the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of physical conditions through exercises, manual therapy, education, and techniques to alleviate pain, improve movement, and promote recovery. Physiotherapists work with people of all ages to treat a wide range of conditions, from sports injuries and chronic pain to post-surgery rehabilitation and neurological disorders.

Do I need a Doctors referral to attend?

Generally speaking, you do not need a doctor’s referral for physiotherapy. However, if you have a referral letter, please bring it to your first appointment. For EPC’s, WorkCover or DVA-covered treatments, a referral is necessary for billing.

How long does a session go for?

Each session lasts about 30 minutes. If needed, we may also use an IF or Bodyflow machine for an additional 10-20 minutes, depending on your treatment area and pain level. Plan for 30 minutes, but allow for 50 minutes to be sure.

Will I receive treatment in the initial consultation?

Yes! During your initial assessment, we’ll start with questions, measurements, and tests, then move straight into treatment.

What do I need to bring to my first appointment?

If you’ve had any X-rays, ultrasounds, or other imaging related to your area of concern, bring these results to your appointment. Generally, the report will be enough, but you may bring the films if you prefer.

What should I wear for my first appointment?

Wear comfortable clothing that’s easy to move in, as we may ask you to do basic movements and exercises. For a knee issue, it’s best to wear shorts or pants that can be rolled up for ease of access.

What will my health fund cover?

Your health fund coverage will depend on your provider and level of cover. Generally, if you have extras, part of the session will be covered. For exact details, contact your health fund directly. If your private health plan partially covers physiotherapy, we can process the claim for you through HICAPS, so you’ll only pay the gap amount.

Are you a preferred provider for any Health Funds?

No, we are not a preferred provider for any funds. The Australian Physiotherapy Association does not endorse the preferred provider scheme, and we have chosen not to participate. It is important to note that preferred providers do not have additional qualifications; they simply have agreements with certain health funds, which we do not support.

Do you accept DVA patients?

Yes, we do accept patients under the Dept of Veteran Affairs. For more info see this page.

Do you accept WorkCover patients?

Yes, we accept patients with a valid WorkCover certificate! For more info see this page.

Is Physiotherapy covered under Medicare?

Generally, physiotherapy is not covered by Medicare. However, if you have a chronic condition, your GP may issue an Enhanced Primary Care Plan (EPC), which allows you to claim up to 5 physiotherapy visits per calendar year under Medicare. Your GP will assess and allocate visits based on your condition.

Do you Bulk Bill EPC’s?

No! We do not bulk bill our EPC’s, they incur a $20.00 gap payment. To learn more, visit our fee schedule here.

How much notice do I need to give for a cancellation/reschedule?

As we are a busy practice, we require a minimum of 4 hours’ notice when cancelling and/or rescheduling an appointment. Insufficient notice may result in a cancellation fee. Missed appointments without notification will incur the full consultation fee.

Do you have parking?

Yes, we have a dedicated parking lot with 9 standard spaces and 1 disabled space at the front of our practice. The lot rarely fills up, but additional street parking is available nearby if needed.
